How many crypto ATMs does Auckland have?
More than anywhere else in New Zealand, by a long way. Localcoin, the Canadian operator that publishes a proper locator, files 41 machines under “Auckland”. Look closer and two of those are actually a Challenge station on Malfroy Road in Rotorua and a liquor store on Eleventh Avenue in Tauranga, so the real Auckland-region figure is 39. That is more than half of Localcoin’s roughly 71 New Zealand sites.
CoinFlip, the American operator that took over the Olliv brand, runs the other big network. 1News reported in 2025 that CoinFlip owned more than half of the country’s machines, and Auckland is clearly its heartland too: search-indexed pages from its locator show kiosks in dairies, laundromats and BP 2GO stations from Greenhithe to Botany. Its locator blocks automated checks, though, so we can’t give you a CoinFlip count for the city — treat the CoinFlip names on this page as examples, not a census.
The machines are legal — the 2025 ban was dropped in July 2026. Our national Bitcoin ATM guide covers the law, fees and ID rules; this page sticks to where things are.
Bitcoin ATMs in Auckland by area
Here is Localcoin’s official list, sorted into the parts of Auckland people actually navigate by, with CoinFlip examples alongside. Hosts are mostly superettes, Caltex and BP stations and liquor stores, so hours vary from shop to shop.

Auckland CBD and the city fringe
If you work in town, you have three Localcoin machines within a short walk of each other: Custom Mart at 15 Customs Street East near Britomart, Civic Convenience at 10 Wellesley Street West just off Queen Street, and Haven Mart at 214 Karangahape Road. K Road also has a CoinFlip kiosk at a convenience store, so it is one of the few streets in the country where you can compare two operators’ prices on foot. BTC Map shows another CoinFlip machine on the Grafton–Newmarket side of the Domain.
Head up Dominion Road and you’ll find Localcoin at Dominion Convenience (259 Dominion Road) and CoinFlip at Eden Heights Superette — again, two operators on one road. Further south, the BP2GO Landscape station at 925 Mount Eden Road in Three Kings is one of Localcoin’s few two-way machines in the country, and there’s a Caltex on Great North Road at Western Springs for anyone heading west.
Crypto ATMs on the North Shore
The Shore is well covered along its main roads. Localcoin has machines at the Caltex on Oteha Valley Road in Albany, My Blitz on Clyde Road in Browns Bay, the Caltex on Constellation Drive (filed as Mairangi Bay), Calliope Superette in Devonport, The Bottle O at Windsor Park and Silverdale Liquor Centre. The standout is Kauri Park Superette on Rangatira Road, Beach Haven: it is flagged for selling as well as buying.
CoinFlip’s best-known Shore site is at Highbury, Birkenhead, listed as a buy-and-sell kiosk. It also has a dairy on East Coast Road and sites around Greenhithe. North of the bridge and the motorway, Warkworth’s Kowhai Liquor Centre on Whitaker Road is the last Localcoin machine before Northland — after that, we could not confirm any machine until Whangārei, and even there only CoinFlip claims coverage.
South Auckland and Manukau
South Auckland has the biggest single cluster, which mirrors where dairies and service stations are thickest. Localcoin is at two Manurewa sites (Thirsty Liquor on Wordsworth Road and The Vape Warehouse on Russell Road), two in Papatoetoe (Mobil on Cavendish Drive and Gull on Great South Road), Buffys Superette in Otara, the Caltex at Monument on Great South Road in Ōtāhuhu, Mobil in Takanini, MyBlitz in Papakura, and the Caltex on Springs Road in East Tāmaki. Farm Cove Superette on Fisher Parade covers the Pakuranga side.
CoinFlip adds sites such as Botany Town Centre, the BP 2GO at Opaheke and the Caltex at Leabank. Further out, Pukekohe has a Localcoin machine at Tasman Fuels on Manukau Road — useful if you’re coming up from the north Waikato, since Hamilton has only three machines of its own.
West and East Auckland
West
Out west the BP2GO on Bruce McLaren Road, Henderson, is another two-way Localcoin machine. Glen Eden has two (Kelston Mall and the Caltex on West Coast Road), and there are single machines at the Caltex on Clark Street in New Lynn, Taikata Superette on Te Atatu Peninsula, the Caltex on Te Atatu Road, Hobs Point Convenience in Hobsonville and — the oddest host in the city — Westgate Bowling. CoinFlip pages mention Te Atatu Wine Villa and dairies or laundromats in Waterview and Glendene.
East and the isthmus
East of the CBD, Localcoin is at Tamaki Liquor in Mission Bay, the BP2GO on Main Highway in Ellerslie, two Mt Wellington superettes, Panmure Supermarket on Queens Road and the BP2GO Hillside in Hillsborough. CoinFlip shows up in Remuera and Panmure. If you live in the eastern bays, Mission Bay is the closest machine — Localcoin lists nothing in St Heliers or Glendowie.
Where can you sell bitcoin for cash in Auckland?
Most Auckland machines are one-way: notes in, crypto out. Localcoin’s locator data marks just three Auckland sites as able to pay out cash — Beach Haven, Henderson and Three Kings — and CoinFlip lists Highbury in Birkenhead. Localcoin also offers a “pre-sell” option online so you send the bitcoin first and collect cash at a sell machine, skipping the wait.
Kiosk cash-out costs several percent and is limited by the notes in the machine. Selling on an exchange and withdrawing NZD to your bank is cheaper. Our guide to cashing out walks through it, and the OTC page covers five- and six-figure amounts, which no dairy machine will handle.
Spending bitcoin in Auckland
Auckland has about 21 businesses on BTC Map, the crowd-sourced map of places that accept bitcoin, plus one CoinFlip ATM entry. That is a long way behind Queenstown’s 39, but there are some recognisable names. On the waterfront, Oyster & Chop in Market Square at the Viaduct and Andrew Andrew on Quay Street were both re-checked by mappers in 2026. In Devonport, Node on Wynyard Street and Vondel on Victoria Road are listed; across the harbour, Takapuna Barber Shop on Hurstmere Road was verified in 2025.
The rest are trades and services — Atelier Hair on Remuera Road, Life Pharmacy on Kepa Road, Lux Solar, a plumber, a tiler and an Albany accountant. About ten Auckland entries have been re-verified since the start of 2025; the others may be stale. If you run a business and want to join them, see accepting crypto payments in NZ.
Auckland’s crypto community: meetups, events and a bit of history
The bitcoin-only crowd gathers as the Auckland Bitcoin Club, which posts meetups on X. For a broader mix of crypto talk, the Cryptocurrency NZ community lists a monthly Auckland meetup at Brother Brewery in Mt Eden from 7pm. The listing has no specific dates, so check the group page before turning up. The national Bitkiwi series moves between cities; its next event is in Wellington on 25 October 2026.
The biggest event on the calendar was NZCryptoCon, scheduled for 6–7 June 2026 at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) with more than 4,000 attendees expected, according to the venue’s event page. It covers crypto broadly rather than bitcoin alone.
Auckland is also where New Zealand’s ATM story began: in April 2014 Bitto installed the country’s first bitcoin machines here, and a two-way Bitcoin Central machine closed within months after banks refused it facilities.
Is an ATM the best way to buy crypto in Auckland?
For most Aucklanders, no. Third-party listings put NZ machine fees at roughly 16% plus a flat fee, so NZ$500 in notes buys about NZ$415–420 of bitcoin. An online exchange funded by bank transfer typically costs around 1%, and a card purchase a few percent. The ATM premium is worth paying only if you have no bank account or card, or need coins in the next ten minutes. Our step-by-step buying guide compares the online routes, and you’ll need a wallet with a scannable QR code either way, because Localcoin won’t let you type an address.
Auckland has plenty of accountants advertising crypto work; we haven’t vetted any, so we don’t name them. Keep your receipts either way — see the crypto tax guide — and compare other cities on the locations hub.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the nearest Bitcoin ATM in Auckland CBD?
Localcoin’s locator lists three central machines: Custom Mart at 15 Customs Street East, Civic Convenience at 10 Wellesley Street West and Haven Mart at 214 Karangahape Road. CoinFlip also has a kiosk at a Karangahape Road convenience store. Opening hours follow the host shop, so check before you walk over.
Can I sell bitcoin for cash in Auckland?
Yes, at a handful of two-way machines. Localcoin flags sell-to-cash at Kauri Park Superette in Beach Haven, BP2GO on Bruce McLaren Road in Henderson and BP2GO Landscape in Three Kings. CoinFlip lists its Highbury, Birkenhead kiosk as buy and sell. Expect a spread of several percent.
How many crypto ATMs are there in Auckland?
Localcoin alone has 39 machines in the Auckland region (its locator files 41 under Auckland, but two are in Rotorua and Tauranga). CoinFlip adds dozens more in dairies and petrol stations, but it does not publish an accessible per-city count, so a precise total isn’t possible.
Are there crypto meetups in Auckland?
The bitcoin-only Auckland Bitcoin Club organises through its X account, and the general Cryptocurrency NZ group lists a monthly meetup at Brother Brewery in Mt Eden from 7pm. The listing is undated, so confirm the next date on the group’s page before you go.
Where can I spend bitcoin in Auckland?
BTC Map, a crowd-sourced map, lists about 21 Auckland businesses that accept bitcoin, including Oyster & Chop and Andrew Andrew on the waterfront, Node and Vondel in Devonport, and Takapuna Barber Shop. Listings are community-maintained, so ask staff before you order.
Is there a crypto exchange office in Auckland where I can buy in person?
Not that we could find. Easy Crypto, which was based in Auckland, stopped trading in March 2026, and Bitprime collapsed in 2022. Today in-person options are ATMs and informal meetup trades; everything else is online.
