Why this site exists
Search for “buy crypto NZ” and you’ll find a lot of pages that read as if they were written for every country at once, with a New Zealand flag pasted on top. Many still recommend platforms that stopped trading in New Zealand months ago, or repeat that crypto ATMs were banned when the Government in fact changed course. We started crypto.kiwi.nz to fix that: one place where a Kiwi can find out, with dates and sources, how to buy, sell and hold crypto here — in Auckland or Invercargill, with NZ$50 or NZ$500,000.
The site covers exchanges and apps that take NZD, Bitcoin ATMs city by city, OTC desks for large trades, peer-to-peer markets, banks and payment rails, IRD tax and the rules set by the FMA, DIA and the Reserve Bank. Each page is built on primary sources first: legislation, regulator and IRD guidance, the Financial Service Providers Register, and each company’s own fee and legal pages.
Independent by design
We are not an exchange, broker, adviser or Financial Service Provider, and we don’t hold anyone’s money. No platform pays to appear on this site or to be ranked
higher, and no company reviews our pages before they go live. Links to providers are ordinary links to their official websites — they are there so you can
check what we say, and they are marked nofollow as a matter of policy.
The site is funded by its owners. If that ever changes — for example if we add advertising — we will say so clearly on this page and on every page where it applies.
Who writes the guides
Pages are researched and written by the Crypto Kiwi editorial team. Every guide follows the same documented method: primary sources first, third-party data labelled as such, and a visible date on when the facts were last checked. We are not licensed financial advisers, so nothing here is personal advice — when your situation needs it, we point you to an adviser, a tax agent or the regulator.
Corrections and updates
Crypto moves fast and so do the rules. Every page shows when its facts were last checked. If you spot something out of date — a fee change, a machine that has gone, a provider that has closed — email contacts@crypto.kiwi.nz. We correct factual errors quickly and note material changes on the page. Operators can also contact us to correct data about their own service; we will check it against an official source before changing anything.
Not financial advice
Everything on this site is general information. Crypto-assets are volatile and you can lose everything you put in. Read our full disclaimer and the methodology behind our platform pages.
